If you have direct reports, you should be having weekly one on one (aka 1:1) rhythm meetings with them.  This meeting is a regular check-in to keep each other in the loop, resolve issues, and help the participants grow in their role.

Staying aligned is the biggest issue I see in companies and team members I have worked with over the last 30 years.  These 1:1’s are considered the most important meeting you can have, as it lays the foundation for a trusting and productive work relationship.

Benefits for Employees are that they get the feedback and guidance they need to be successful in their role, these conversations aid to advance their career and, as a result, their contribution to the company.  It also provides a level of comfortability and safety, by way of constant feedback that allows the employee to see where they stand.

Benefits for Managers are that you help guide your team members’ development, resolve issues early on, and improve employee retention.  To unleash the potential of the people you manage, you must engage and bond with each individual.  There is no shortcut for building real connections.

Company success stands and falls with the effort managers put into connecting with their team members.  Healthy 1:1 meeting culture is not only great individuals, but it can also affect the bottom line of your business.
